Ethiopian coffee vs Brazil coffee.
Brazil grows about 5.9 times as much coffee as Ethiopia, so on volume Brazil wins. Ethiopia is the fit when you want a named-zone Arabica with a lot-level record. Here are the figures, and the cases for each.
The figures side by side.
| Origin | Total | Arabica | Robusta | USDA marketing year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ethiopia | 12,100 | 12,100 | 0 | October to September |
| Brazil | 71,900 | 47,500 | 24,400 | July to June |

Where Brazil is stronger.
We put this first on purpose. A comparison that hides where the other origin wins is not worth reading.
- Volume. Brazil grows 71,900 thousand bags in 2026/27, about 5.9 times Ethiopia. Its Arabica alone, 47,500 thousand bags, is about 3.9 times Ethiopia's whole crop.
- Range of species. Brazil grows 47,500 thousand bags of Arabica and 24,400 thousand of Robusta, so one origin can answer both. Ethiopia is Arabica only in these figures.
- Recent shipping pace. Cecafe reported Brazil exported 3.9 million bags in September 2026, up 3 percent on 2025.
Where Ethiopia is the better fit.
- A named-zone Arabica story. The season sheet is organised by seven Ethiopian origins, each with its altitude, process and cup score recorded per lot.
- Origin identity as the point. If your roastery sells where the coffee comes from, an Ethiopian zone is part of the product.
How to decide.
- You need very large, continuous volume from one origin: Brazil's scale is the relevant fact.
- You want a single named zone and a lot-level record of it: Ethiopia fits.
- You need Robusta in the same shipment programme: Brazil, not Ethiopia.
What we have not verified for Brazil: grade names, washed and natural shares, harvest months and export regulation. We have not checked them against a primary source, so we do not describe them. Kaffa Bridge sources Ethiopian coffee only and acts for the buyer. We are not the exporter and do not own farms or washing stations. Brazil export figure: Cecafe.
